From the outside looking in, surfing looks like a relaxing sport; effortless, mellow and easy. But you ask anyone who's tried it and they all say that it sure takes it out of you. That's why surfers are always mellow creatures on the land - they're absolutely exhausted from burning up their energy out in the water!

DRU ADLER RANKED SECOND IN WORLD

Dru Adler increased his bank account by $5000 after placing second in the world on the weekend in the 2004 Quiksilver Airshow World Series event held at the remote surfing location of Roaring Beach in Tasmania.

Dru was competing against the top 30 surfers from around the world and in round one, Dru beat every competitor posting the highest score.  In Round two, Dru beat everyone except fellow Gold Coast surfer Asher Pacey.  When the semi finals finished, Dru’s progressive tally showed he was winning by over a full point.  In the finals, only the top 6 competitors enter and all points are wiped and it becomes a race to the podium.  Dru almost took home 1st place and the $10,000 grand prize but was beaten in the end by James Catto from WA who won by 2 points.

A lack of swell at the main contest site of Clifton Beach, Hobart forced organisers to relocate the fourth and final Quiksilver Airshow World Series to Roaring Beach - a one and a half hour drive north east of Hobart.  Quiksilver's decision to postpone competition until Sunday in a bid to gain the best possible conditions for Tasmania's richest ever surfing event proved the right one. Roaring Beach turned on great aerial waves for the $25,500 event with on-shore winds providing ramps on the wave faces for the nation's top aerial surfers to launch their maneuvers on.
