Growing up on comic book super heroes and Dungeons and Dragons, Alex was drawn to martial arts and its mind, body, and spirit-enhancing benefits, as portrayed in kung fu and ninja films.

As an adolescent he turned to the martial arts to guide and protect himself, and at the age of 15 he began training in kung fu. Since then he has embraced his arduous training lifestyle and the dedication and ambition to be a champion.

Following a successful amateur career in kickboxing and sport juijitsu, Alex became a professional fighter in 1998. He subsequently progressed to Mixed Martial Arts, a discipline which involves boxing, thai boxing, juijitsu, and wrestling.
