Makoto Ohki, Regional General Manager - Japan
Together with Phil Welch, Makoto Ohki directs TNI's sales and marketing in Japan. He has developed a strong background in corporate leadership throughout a career that spans more than 30 years. For over 20 years, Makoto worked for a private organization, handling verbal and literary translations, publishing, resource management, and employee development. Drawing on this experience, he established an independent global communications company, and so became Managing Director of Lingual Corporation in 1995.
At Lingual Corp., Makoto worked as a freelance management training executive for FranklinCovey, establishing a strong reputation through his sincerity and experience. In this capacity Makoto conducted seminars for tens of thousands of businesspeople, focusing on key principles that will lead to success in business and in life. Beginning in 1995 with FranklinCovey’s flagship training program entitled “Time Quest”, Makoto also conducted seminars like “Global Leadership”, “Writing Advantage”, “Planning Quest”, and “The Seven Habits for Highly Effective People”. In addition to this work, he collaborated with America’s McCulley/Cuppan to develop and deliver training programs on effective scientific writing for pharmaceutical applications. Lingual Corp. counts many international companies among its clients, including Microsoft, Fujutsu, Motorola, Hakuhodo, GE, Sompo Japan, Nihon Seimei, Pfizer, and Walt Disney Japan. Makoto is a Zenger-Miller authorized instructor for management training programs. In 1999, his Japanese translation of “The 10 Natural Laws of Successful Time and Life Management” was published, and it has continued to sell well since then.
Makoto’s background within the multi-level marketing industry includes producing movies, conducting trainings, heading translation efforts, and starring at events for several different companies in Japan.
Makoto currently resides with his wife and daughter in Kanagawa Prefecture’s Sagamihara city. He has two daughters, three sons, and ten grandchildren. His personal motto is “Today is the first day of the rest of my life”.
