TAHITIAN NONI® Juice and the U.S. FDA

PROVO, UT - The United States Food and Drug Administration has no reason or basis to approve or disapprove of Tahitian Noni International’s TAHITIAN NONI® Juice.

TAHITIAN NONI Juice is a juice product marketed as a dietary supplement. The FDA does not regulate juices or dietary supplements. While it may sound alarming for Tahitian Noni International to admit that TAHITIAN NONI Juice does not have FDA approval, it is critical to realize that TAHITIAN NONI Juice also does not have the FDA’s disapproval.

On this subject, orange juice, Coca-Cola, Jell-O gelatin, Wonder bread, and any other food product does not have or need FDA approval, either. The FDA only gives approval to drugs or medical devices.

Companies that produce food items, juices and dietary supplements must comply with the FDA in the areas of proper manufacturing practices, labeling and advertising, and be subject to FDA inspection. Tahitian Noni International is in full compliance with such regulations.

One example is pasteurization. Beginning in November 1999, the FDA required unpasteurized juices to include a warning on the label. This warning reads: “This product has not been pasteurized and, therefore, may contain harmful bacteria that can cause serious illness in children, the elderly, and persons with weakened immune systems.” Tahitian Noni International does pasteurize TAHITIAN NONI Juice, so the product does not carry the label.

If TAHITIAN NONI Juice were ever shown to be unsafe, the FDA would require Tahitian Noni International to remove the product from the market. This has never happened, anywhere. TAHITIAN NONI Juice is unavailable in some parts of the world, but this is completely unrelated to the safety of the product. Tahitian Noni International stands by TAHITIAN NONI Juice as a safe and beneficial product.
